— Idil, 9 years old, Denizli, Turkey

NAME: İDİL

AGE: 9

GRADE: 3

TIME UNDER LOCKDOWN SO FAR: 52 days

WHO YOU ARE UNDER LOCKDOWN WITH: Mom and dad

PLACE AND COUNTRY OF LOCKDOWN: DENİZLİ-TÜRKİYE

HOW YOU’VE BEEN COPING UP TO NOW: Making a schedule for myself and spending time with my parents

I WONDER. SELF-INTERVIEW UNDER LOCKDOWN

Why have these lockdown measures been taken?

So that Covid-19 doesn’t spread more.

What kind of lesson might we learn from this situation?

We must keep the nature clean, we must understand other living things have needs, too and be more respectful and gentle to them.

Do you think your life is going to change after this? If you think so, in what way do you think it will change?

I don’t think it’ll change much. Because grown-ups don’t take lessons from things, much. If they can, I think there can be firmer precautions against diseases.

What would you like to do on the first day you can go out to the street freely?

Trekking

Is there anything you do like about the lockdown?

Yes, there is. I can spend more time with my family.

Is there anything you do not understand that you’d like to understand better? What?

Yes, there is. I wonder how Covid-19 occured.

 What do you ask yourself?

I ask myself if the people I love will get COVID-19.

What helps you cope with the situation? Do you have any suggestions for people who are not coping so well?

To spend time with my family and to have a schedule. I would recommend to the people who can’t cope to make a schedule and stick to it.

What concerns you about the general situation?

I’m worried that COVID-19 won’t disappear.

Are you free? Do you feel free?

I don’t feel free because I can’t leave the house.

In what ways do you think your situation is similar to being in prison?

I can’t leave the house. I can’t eat the food I feel like eating, I can’t go to school and I can’t see my friends.

Do you think your family is scared of Covid-19?

Yes, they are. Because they don’t want their loved ones to be harmed.

I Wonder, Self-interviews Under Lockdown is a project by Wonder Ponder inviting 5 to 18 year olds to ask questions and think about the coronavirus crisis and its consequences through self-interviews in audio, written or ilustrated format.

If you want to send a self-interview for us to include it in the project, please read this entry and follow these instructions.

We look forward to hearing from you!
